Being Fucked Up -- video still

I Am A Conjuror

C: I am a conjuror. I can bring anything into existence. We are conjurors.

E: Your cleverness and youth leave your body in three ways.

C: There is a rich seepage, like the seepage of blood, or gravy.

E: There is an eruption from the seven holes in the head, like the activity of seven geysers.

C: There is a luminous seepage (the seepage of light).

E: Your cleverness and youth leave your body in three ways.

C: Indeed.

C: Penicillin represents all that was flawed and feeble about medicine before we began to make our discoveries.

E: The concept of the anti-biotic is so adversarial, but the body stores no notion of an adversary.

C: Penicillin was a terrible idea.

E: It has been confirmed.

C: We are going to win the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine.

E: We have completely revolutionized, in the span of a single year, the way that medicine and the body are understood around the world.

C: Other winners have made contributions to the field.

E: We've forever changed the way that data are collected and analysed.

C: In fact, the concept of “analysis” seems quaint now.

E: The changes that have resulted from our discoveries will not be understood by everyone as good.

C: Whole systems will become obsolete thanks to us, both physical and ideological.

E: Already Pfizer has lost everything. They can't even sell the equipment from their labs.

C: Hah!

E: Some, however, will be vindicated by our discoveries. We have simply confirmed what they knew all along.

C: Sadly, they were driven into isolation, or asylums.

E: Some, I'm sure, still haven't heard what's happened, eschewing information and it's mongers as they do.

C: It won't be until the animals tell them, or the bacteria, or the weather, that they will come back to help with the Reconstruction.

E: But they will come.

C: And when they do, they will show us how incredibly trivial it is to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine.

E: Before we began to make our discoveries, We had been involved with a number of groups dedicated to changing The System.

C: We all agreed that we hated most things about this world.

E: I logged the species of animals who gained endangered status every year.

C: We hated animals being endangered. We hated being constantly pushed toward loathsome “entertainment”, and away from thoughts of death or loss.

E: And especially away from boredom.

C: We hated how everyone we knew, even the activists, was thinking about their tits all the time, and we hated the proliferation of surgeries you could have for your tits.

E: We hated the idea of betterment, which was used on us like a club—ironic in a solar system who's fundamental principal of design are entropy and decay.

C: So after years of failing to change the things we hated, we decided to change ourselves.

E: And now we are conjurors. We can bring anything into existence.
